About Copper-Nickel Alloy Cu90/Ni10
Copper-Nickel Alloy 90/10 (Cu 90%, Ni 10%) is an economical alternative to Cu-Ni 70/30 alloy. It has additional composition of iron 1.4 % to provide increased resistance to general corrosion, erosion and impingement corrosion. It should not be used in chromic, hydrochloric and nitric acids and extensively polluted water with sewage and industrial garbage.
90/10 Cu Ni alloy can be formed by hot and cold processing techniques. Fine weldability. It can be used to prevent corrosion by turbulent and high velocity seawater. It has low temperature coefficient of electric resistance. Good ductility. Cu Ni alloy 90/10 doesn’t need surface protection therefore it assures additional security. It is an ideal metal for piping in the ship manufacturing industry as it has good resistance to stress corrosion cracking in ammonized marine water. Further it resists pitting & crevice corrosion.

90- 10 Cu Ni Alloy heat processing
Generally the heat processing is only followed for soft annealing and stress relaxation in Copper-Nickel alloys. Recrystalizaiton annealing temperatures vary from 620oC to 900oC on the base of extent of cold processing, magnitude of nickel and other elements. Elevated temperatures are lined with small annealing periods and low temperatures with prolong annealing periods. The stress relaxation annealing is conducted from 280oC to 500oC. It is recommended to anneal alloy 90/10 in unaerated or in a nominal reducing condition.
